How does it start?-Our Present set up

When a child fails to attain normal development milestones, the parent need to bring the child to professionals for proper assessment of the problem the child may have and diagnosis of the Disability if any and its severity.Arogya Sandhan is having   “Assessment and Diagnostic Centre” at AROGYA SANDHAN CLINICAL LABORATORY & DOCTOR’S CLINIC at 67B , New Santoshpur Main Road,Kolkata-700075 where  a team of professionals including Psychologist, Psychiatrist, Paediatrician, Neurologist, Speech Therapist, Physio/ Occupational Therapist and Special Educator . The incharge of this centre is Mrs Kaberi Sinha
Therapeutic Intervention is an essential part: After Assessment and Formal Diagnosis of the nature of disability and its severity, the child may be required to be exposed to various kinds of therapeutic interventions for remediation of the problem and improvement of quality of life. Important Therapeutic Interventions are- Infant Stimulation and Early Intervention, One-to-One Session, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Multi-Sensory Therapy, Hydro Therapy, Speech-Language-Audio Therapy and Dance-Music-Yoga Therapies.
Residential Care Home will have Centre for Special Education: All Inmates of  Residential Care Home irrespective of their disability and its severity must be provided with Special Education depending upon their requirement and capacity by drawing an Individualised Education Plan (IEP). In this centre their should be “Three -Prong Approach” of exploring  the hidden potential through up gradation of (i) Personal Adequacy , (ii) Social Competency  (iii) Vocational Efficiency of each special child, irrespective of the nature and severity of disability. The objective is to bring about sustainable improvements in 5 major parameters of sharpening the hidden abilities, viz., Cognitive Skill, Self-help Skill, Motor Function Skill, Socialization Skill and Language Skill.From the school level a group of students who can well acquire educable skills, can be given the opportunity and encouragement to pursue Secondary Level and then Senior Secondary Level of education under National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) curriculum, depending upon their competence and confidence level.
Centre for Vocational Training:At present Arogya Sandhan has been running VOCATIONAL TRAINING CENTRE fro mentally Challenged AT 2c,2nd Road, Eastern Park,Kolkata -700075. Inmates of  Residential Care Home having different degree of disability, who may not cope up with education and assess at trainable are expose to Pre-Vocational Training for ascertaining their aptitude and skill. They are finally put up in some vocational trade according to their respective aptitude. Vocational training is the stepping stone for future rehabilitation and inclusion through gainful employment opportunities.
Joyful Learning, Extra Curricular Activities: All the Inmates of  Residential Care Home should be exposed to some kind of extra curricular activities including music, dance, instruments, games, karate, yoga, drawing, art and craft etc., with the aim to explore and nurture creative potential of the special needs children and built their self – confidence and self-esteem through joyful learning.
