Why This Trust

In course of rendering medical services to cross-sections of society as volunteers of Arogya Sandhan, we came in close contact with challenged children and their parents. We came to know that parents of these children are suffering from loneliness in handling their children and deep anxiety of the future threat of life of their challenged children in their absence.
LAKHS OF INDIAN PARENTS OF CHALLENGED CHILDREN ARE ASKING:
Who will look after my disabled child after my death ?
TILL DATE, NONE HAS GIVEN SATISFACTORY ANSWER TO THIS QUESTION.
In India, a large number of Challenged or differently-able or disabled Persons affected with Autism, Cerebral Palsy(CP), Mental Retardation(MR), Multiple Disabilities and Mental illness(except lunatic) normally can not avail the opportunities to optimize their self-dependency as the requisite infrastructural facilities and trained human resources are not available in domestic care. Each differently able person has some in-born abilities and potentialities which are to be regularly sharpened and shaped through their exposure to a range of education, therapy, training and socialization. Whereas almost cent percent of population belonging to this category of disorders are cared domestically as there is no societal arrangement to take care of their challenged child. Thus parents have to act as the normal caregivers for their differently-able children. In absence of parents, in India, there hardly exists any societal arrangement for continuous life long support, care, training and therapies to rehabilitate as well as protect the lives of these disabled persons.
Parents through their various associations have been trying to draw the attention of the common people, state and central governments and other organizations to the vulnerability and insecurity of their special children in absence of their parents. At last, in 1999, National Trust Act was passed in the Parliament of India. National Trust Act has solved the burning problem of guardianship of disabled persons. This Act has also established a Board to promote measures for the care and protraction of persons with disability in the event of death of their parent or guardian.
During the last 10 years after the enactment of National Trust Act, there is no significant development in this regard. All the parents are still worried as the NGOs are not coming forward to establish residential rehabilitation care home. Only Parents organizations are trying to establish Residential Rehabilitation Care Home.Whereas successful establishment of Residential Rehabilitation Care Home for disabled persons requires the convergence of active support and participation by Parents, common people namely social worker and government as the establishment has to be sustained for a long period.
In this backdrop, Arogya Sandhan Santoshpur accepted and successfully accomplished a challenging job of organizing parents and common people/social workers under one organization namely Arogya Sandhan Charitable Trust.
Arogya Sandhan Charitable Trust wants to establish Residential Rehabilitation Care Home for Persons affected with Autism, Cerebral Palsy (CP), Mental Retardation (MR), Multiple Disabilities and Mental Illness for creating awareness for preventive measures and early detection and arranging Assessment, diagnosis & counseling, care, training and therapies to optimize their self-dependency so that they can be rehabilitated for main stream activities with residential and non-residential facilities.
